What is the 13th Salary?
The 13th salary (décimo terceiro) is a right for all formal workers in Brazil. It equals an extra salary, paid in two installments at the end of the year.
It was established in 1962 and is guaranteed by the Federal Constitution. The amount is proportional to months worked during the year.

How is it Calculated?
The value is proportional to months worked in the year. Each month with more than 15 days worked counts as a full month.
Example: Salary R$ 3,000 × 8 months ÷ 12 = R$ 2,000
Deductions from 13th
- •Social Security: Deducted in 2nd installment on total amount
- •Income Tax: Deducted in 2nd installment, after deducting social security and dependents
Important: The 1st installment has NO deductions!
Payment Dates
- •1st Installment: By November 30 (can be with vacation)
- •2nd Installment: By December 20
